How Valheim Hearth and Home will Affect Dedicated Servers with HostEZ

Last Updated by HostEZ.io Staff. September 13, 2021 12:31PM Pacific time.

Introduction

At HostEZ, we know that many of our customers are wondering how the Valheim Hearth and Home (H&H) update will impact their dedicated servers with us. We have created this guide to help you to understand what we believe the impacts will be. Note that the instructions in this article are meant for HostEZ's Valheim Server customers

What is the Valheim Hearth and Home Release Date & Time?

The widely anticipated Hearth and Home update for Valheim is expected to be released on September 16th, 2021. An official release time (hour) for the game and dedicated servers through Steam has not been announced as of the last update to this article.

However, a Valheim team member recently stated that the release may take place in the afternoon (Central European Time). If this timing is correct, and we guess that "afternoon" means approximately 1:00PM local Skoevde Sweden time, then the updates to the game could be available as early as September 16th at 7:00AM Eastern Time (4:00AM Pacific time). Note that these times are only guesses, and the actual release time will likely vary, as no official timing has been announced by Iron Gate.

How do I update my Valheim Server from HostEZ?

If you are using a Valheim Vanilla, and your server is set to auto update, simply press the server Restart button.

If you are using Valheim+, you can attempt to pull the latest version of Valheim by pressing the server Restart button. If this method does not work, you will need to go to Settings > Reinstall Server. Warning: using the reinstall function will result in your V+ plugins being lost. You will need to re-add your V+ plugins and configuration once it has been reinstalled successfully. Note that, due to potential compatibility issues, Valheim+ may not be compatible with Hearth and Home for some time until an update is provided by the V+ developer team.

If you are using uMod, you can attempt to pull the latest version of Valheim by pressing the server Restart button. If this method does not work, you will need to go to Settings > Reinstall Server. Warning: using the reinstall function will result in your uMod plugins being lost. You will need to re-add your uMod plugins and configuration once it has been reinstalled successfully. Note that, due to potential compatibility issues, uMod may not be compatible with Hearth and Home for some time until an update is provided by the uMod developer team.

What will happen to my existing Valheim World File?

The official Valheim Discord server FAQ's page has stated the following:

Quote: We can’t know this 100%. The things you have already built should still remain, and ideally you will be able to keep playing on your existing world. However, it’s not certain that you will be able to access all of the new game content without starting a new world.

In a recent video released by Iron Gate, one of the Valheim developers stated that, new creatures/items/entities from the update will appear in unexplored areas of your existing world file. According to the developers, "unexplored" means that the part of the world is not only not explored on the map, but also not physically visited by a character from the game.

For HostEZ customers, we advise all clients to back up their world files and/or download them before conducting a server update. These are the .db and .fwl files found in your File Manager in the HostEZ Control Panel. If you need any assistance with this, customers should please contact us at [email protected] and we will be glad to assist you.

Will my world file be deleted during an update?

In most cases, your world file will not be deleted or overwritten during an update process. However, we strongly advise all customers to back up and download your world files prior to updating your Valheim Server.

While HostEZ will take every measure necessary to recover your Valheim world files, the creators of Valheim have stated that there is no guarantee that the Hearth & Home update will be compatible with your current world files. Please be sure to back up your world files to your local machine, or contact us for assistance.

What happens if my world file will not load or has an error?

While HostEZ will take every measure necessary to recover your Valheim world files, the creators of Valheim have stated that there is no guarantee that the Hearth & Home update will be compatible with your current world files. Please be sure to back up your world files to your local machine, or contact us for assistance.

Will bepinex, uMod or Valheim+ Plus work with my Valheim Hearth and Home server?

We anticipate that bepinex, uMod and Valheim+ will be temporarily unable to load properly and/or will cause your server to crash until new versions of these server mods are released. For this reason, we advise customers to consider purchasing a Valheim Vanilla server or contacting us to assist with converting your server to Vanilla temporarily. Customers can contact us at [email protected] and we will manage this migration process for you on a first-come first serve basis free of charge.

Will HostEZ continue to sell uMod or Valheim+ Plus servers?

Until we fully test and confirm that uMod and Valheim+ Plus work with Valheim Hearth and Home (H&H), HostEZ will suspend new sales of these servers for a period of time. Existing uMod and Valheim+ customers will not be impacted by this. However, we advise uMod and Valheim+ server customers to back up their world files, and to report any issues to us through the [email protected] e-mail address.
