Adding your world to the dedicated server

This guide will walk you through setting up your Valheim server to work with your saved world that you have on your computer, or from another server.

  1. First, you will need to locate your world files. We recommend taking a look at this tutorial video to help locate your files. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2NPZ2LvzxY

Important: Make sure that the world file you want to use with your server is the correct one.

  1. Log into your server control panel (check your service welcome e-mail for the address, username and password). Then, click on the server name you wish to upload the world to.

  2. In the server control panel: click on File Manager, then click on .config -> unity3d -> IronGate -> Valheim -> worlds_local

  3. In the server control panel: click the UPLOAD button -> select the world files from your computer. Both the .db and .fwl files should be uploaded.

  4. Click on "Startup" on the server control panel. Type in the world name in the box that says "World Name". DO NOT INCLUDE .DB IN THE WORLD NAME. Just use the world name only.

  5. Click on "Console" then press the restart button. Your server should boot up and, if successful, look for a line in the console that looks similar to this:
03/06/2021 13:41:28: Load world YourWorldName

Can I rename my world files in the server?
No. You must NOT rename your world files, because the .fwl file will not point to the correct .db file if you do this. If you absolutely must rename your .db and .fwl files, please try using this tool: https://geekstrom.de/valheim/fwl/

How do I simply create a new world?

To create a new world, stop your server in the server control panel. Go to "Startup", and change the name of the world in the Box named "World Name." Note that the world name entered must not already exist in your worlds folder, or the server will attempt to load the existing world with the same name.
